The Path Theory
I wrote this musical for my university's first-ever annual New Works Festival in Spring 2021, at the same time that I was collaborating on Still. Because this was the first full-length musical at which I had ever tried my hand, it was something of an experimental project, exploring the idea of what an philosophical-academic musical could potentially look like. It is an original concept musical that follows the story of Alesse Wright, a young student insistent on proving that there are multiple good paths to take in life, in the face of dissent from her village, which adheres to the belief that everyone has had one precise path laid out for them and that they must follow it or risk their life being ruined forever. The finalized second draft of the script ran 2 acts, 20 scenes, 26 songs, and 113 pages long. Check out the scenes and musical numbers below!
